Science Engagement lives on! South Africa’s National Science Festival is engaged in making sure that our programmes push forward. In light of the Covid-19 restrictions, Scifest Africa is working towards reaching learners in new and exciting ways.

Scifest Africa partnered with the Sakhikamva Foundation in partnership with TATA Consultancy and goIT; as well as the Rhodes Community Engagement Office and Social Innovation Hub;  to put together an exciting ‘Festival in a Box’ programme in 2022

This programme, aimed at senior high school learners, ran as a national competition from 14 February to 17 March that challenged learners to create their own app idea and present a short video for digital platforms, communicating their app and science concept of choice. Scifest Africa put together a series of pre-recorded workshops to equip participants with the knowledge and skills required for science engagement on digital platforms to encourage creative thinking as well as a logical approach to digital science communication.

Scifest Africa acknowledges the growing interest in digital platforms and the core objective of the programme was to develop learners’ abilities for post-Covid/ future science engagement; as well as to challenge learners to explore the interaction between science and art by adopting creative, artistic approaches to digital science communication.
