Bells, that deer-in-the-headlights look, flashing lights, whispers from the audience and flat panic, are the tell-tale signs of the Rhodes University High School Quiz at Scifest Africa. This year we are hosting a virtual quiz with learners competing from all corners of the continent. Scifest Africa would like to invite your school to participate! Schools around the African Continent are welcome to register.
This year’s quiz will again consist of one round, an online quiz with teams of three learners – a maximum of two teams can be entered per school. There is a junior category that consists of learners from Grades 8 – 10 and a senior category with learners from Grades 11 – 12.
Great prizes are up for grabs and the winning team in the Senior High School Quiz will each win a one-year bursary to study science at Rhodes University.
An entry fee of R250.00 for SA schools and R300.00 for international schools will be required per team – teams that struggle to raise this fee are welcomed to approach the Scifest Africa office in request for a waiver.
A preliminary date has been set for Thursday, 8th of September 2022. Teams will need access to a stable internet connection, at least one computer and a mobile phone to successfully complete the competition. Schools that will be in Grahamstown/Makhanda on this day for South Africa’s National Science Festival will be afforded a venue and internet to participate in the online quiz.
Please fill out an entry form here, as well as the consent form. The deadline for registration is Monday, 15 August 2022 by 16h00, and should be accompanied by an entry fee.
We can’t wait to see you there!
